How to Register My Brand on Amazon Requirements, Process, Cost
Most sellers only think about Brand Registry after something goes wrong. A hijacker edits their title. A counterfeit listing shows up under their ASIN. Someone else wins the Buy Box on their own product.
Brand Registry is the tool that stops most of that. This page covers the Amazon Brand Registry requirements, how the process actually works, what it costs, and what you get once you are approved.
What Is Amazon Brand Registry?
Amazon Brand Registry is a free program that links your trademark to your listings and gives you control over how your brand appears on Amazon.
Once enrolled, Amazon treats you as the owner of the brand, not just another seller. You get access to reporting tools, listing protection, and the marketing features that unregistered sellers cannot touch.
It is not a legal service and it does not replace a trademark. It is Amazon’s internal verification layer that sits on top of the trademark you already own.
Amazon Brand Registry Requirements
Before you apply, you need these in place:
An active or accepted pending trademark. This is the main requirement. Your mark must be issued by a government trademark office that Amazon accepts, such as the USPTO, EUIPO, UKIPO, IP Australia, CIPO, or JPO.
A word mark or a design mark. A text based word mark covers the brand name itself. A design mark works only if it includes words, letters or numbers. A plain logo with no text usually will not qualify.
The trademark owner or agent as the applicant. The name on the application must match the name on the trademark record, or you need to be listed as an authorized agent.
Branded products or packaging. Amazon asks for images showing your brand name physically on the product, the packaging, or the label. Digital mockups and sticker labels are common rejection reasons.
A seller or vendor account. You apply through the same email you use for Seller Central or Vendor Central.
You will also be asked for your product categories and the countries where your products are manufactured and distributed.
Do You Need a Trademark for Amazon Brand Registry?
Yes. There is no version of Brand Registry that works without one.
The only shortcut is a pending application filed through Amazon IP Accelerator, which lets you enroll before the trademark is fully registered. If you file on your own and the application is still pending, you generally wait until it is granted.
This is the single biggest reason applications get delayed. Sellers try to register a brand that was never filed as a trademark in the first place.
The Amazon Brand Registry Process
The application itself is short. The preparation is what takes time.
Step 1. File your trademark. Do this in the country where you sell, not just where your business is based. If you sell in the US, UK and Germany, you need coverage in each of those regions.
Step 2. Wait for registration or use IP Accelerator. A standard filing goes through examination, publication and opposition before it is granted.
Step 3.
Create your Brand Registry application. Sign in at brandservices.amazon.com with your Seller Central credentials. Enter your brand name exactly as it appears on the trademark certificate.
Step 4.
Submit trademark and product details. Add your registration or serial number, the issuing office, your categories, and your product and packaging images.
Step 5.
Verification. Amazon sends a verification code to the contact listed on the official trademark record, usually your attorney or filing agent. That person forwards you the code and you submit it.
Step 6.
Approval. Once verified, your brand appears in Brand Registry and the tools unlock in Seller Central.
Small mistakes here cause most rejections. A brand name typed with different spacing than the certificate, packaging photos that look edited, or a trademark contact who never forwards the code.
How Long Does Amazon Brand Registry Take?
Split it into two timelines.
The Amazon side is fast. Once you submit a complete application with a valid registered trademark, review is usually a matter of days. The verification code step is what slows people down, because it depends on your trademark attorney responding.
The trademark side is slow. Depending on the office and whether you face objections or oppositions, registration can take several months to well over a year. That is the real timeline you should plan around.
If you need speed, IP Accelerator is the only official path that shortens it.
Amazon Brand Registry Costs
Brand Registry enrollment is free. Amazon does not charge you to enroll or to keep your brand enrolled.
The costs sit around it:
Government trademark filing fees. These vary by country and by the number of classes you file in. Check the current fee schedule on the official office website before you budget.
Attorney or filing agent fees. Some offices, including the USPTO, require foreign applicants to be represented by a licensed local attorney.
Amazon IP Accelerator. Amazon connects you with vetted law firms at agreed rates and lets you enroll on a pending application. You pay the firm, not Amazon.
Consultant fees. Optional. Useful if your application has already been rejected, your brand name does not match the certificate, or you are managing multiple regions at once.
Budget for the trademark, not for the registry.
Benefits of Amazon Brand Registry
This is where the return shows up.
Listing control. Your brand data takes priority, so random sellers cannot rewrite your titles, bullets and images.
Faster infringement reporting. The Report a Violation tool lets you search by image or keyword and submit counterfeit and IP complaints directly.
A+ Content. Rich comparison charts, image modules and brand story sections on your detail pages.
Amazon Stores. A multi page storefront under your own URL, useful for external traffic and repeat buyers.
Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display. Ad formats that unregistered sellers cannot run.
Brand Analytics. Search term data, repeat purchase behaviour and market basket insight you cannot get anywhere else.
Amazon Vine. Reviews on new products through Amazon’s own reviewer program.
Advanced protection programs. Transparency and Project Zero for brands dealing with serious counterfeit pressure.
What Is Amazon Brand Gating?
Brand gating is Amazon restricting who can list under your brand. Unapproved sellers have to get permission before they can create or join a listing.
It is not automatic with Brand Registry. Gating is applied by Amazon, usually for brands that have documented counterfeit problems and can show a consistent enforcement history.
Brand Registry is the starting point. It gives you the reporting record that supports a gating case later.
Common Reasons Applications Get Rejected
- Brand name on the application does not match the trademark certificate exactly
- Design mark submitted with no text in it
- Product images that look like digital mockups instead of real packaging
- Trademark still pending outside of IP Accelerator
- Verification code never forwarded by the trademark contact
- Applying in a marketplace your trademark does not cover
Most of these are fixable. They just cost you weeks.
